Spectrum News 1- ‘It’s just so freeing’: Camp lifts spirits of kids impacted by cancer

PERRYVILLE, Ky. — The Kids Cancer Alliance is having its annual summer camp this week for teens impacted by cancer. KCA is a nonprofit with the mission of supporting kids with cancer and their families through its programs.

For more than 40 years, Camp KCA has brought joy to children impacted by cancer.

“It’s just so freeing to see other people who’ve also had similar experiences as I have,” said Ella Woodford, one of the 70 campers at the teen camp this week.

When Woodford was four years old, her parents were concerned about a lump on her head.

“We went to a pediatric surgeon, and they cut it off because it was really concerning for everybody, especially at the rapid pace that it was kind of growing right here on my head and they found cancer cells in it,” Woodford said.
